Snorkeling is swimming with fins, a mask, and a tube called a snorkel that allows you to face down in the water and still breathe.
Observe underwater life in a natural environment without complicated equipment and enjoy this experience for long periods of time with little effort.
It is important that you are able to swim or stay afloat without the need for a life jacket to be able to move from one point to another.
Snorkeling does not require tanks and other expensive equipment like regulators. Scuba diving allows you to breathe underwater, while snorkeling allows you to breathe while on the surface with your face down. Snorkeling does not require any certification, while scuba diving requires certification.
The best times to go are when the waves are minimal and it is sunny outside. Sunlight increases visibility and brings out the true colors of fish and corals. Big waves not only make things harder to move and potentially dangerous, but a disturbance like big waves also makes the water cloudy, greatly decreasing visibility.
During the summer and fall months, the water in the tub is warm, approaching 85°F. During the winter and spring months, it cools down significantly, to about 75°F, and in the coldest years, temperatures sometimes dip as low as 60 degrees.
The best visibility is found during the summer months when visibility can reach 100-130 feet. During the winter months, you’ll find it to be anywhere from 15 to 60 feet.
